Bear Pictures from the BWCA
and Quetico
These pictures are from Trouter............here is the story.

On our trip during the summer of 97 we had quite a few encounters with these pesky beasts, but one in particular will always stand out in our memories. Our group of eight people, three fathers and their sons were camped on Koma lake when we had sighted a bear down the shoreline from our camp in the morning. Shortly after, we decided to check out the small falls that are between Koma and Malberg. We had hung our food pack properly in the tree, but we had a small pack with that nights supper inside my canoe. My canoe was being used that day by the Big Cheese and my son, I was traveling with another friend of ours in his canoe. My partner and I had reached the falls first and were at the bottom taking pictures when the Big Cheese and my son came strolling down. Being concerned about the bear that we saw earlier I questioned my son about the pack in my canoe and told him that maybe he should run back and get it. He went back to the canoe but in the short period that the pack was left alone our neighborhood pesk had robbed us of that nights supper and was sitting just inside the woods contently eating our food. We all stood around and watched the bear for awhile as he was a safe distance away. After a period of time everyone got bored of watching the bear so they went down to the bottom of the falls. I wanted my pack back so the Big Cheese and I sat down to wait. After about 15 min. or so the bear I Guess had figured he had enough as he came strolling out of the woods but before he left us he crawled back in my canoe to look for more food, as there was no more food to be found he left but not before I got some excellent pictures of him standing inside my canoe.
