Gabs made this for me. She went on a trip a few years ago, and I just thought this was pretty cool. The fish ended up marking my tent entrance the entire trip, and is now in my Quetico Room.
From our first campsite. What a fantastic place. Out of Respect for my good friend Dave B, I will not be posting much about this area.
Another Pic from our campsite. Again, this was what I consider a 5 star campsite. Great landing, pretty decent pads, fantastic fishing from shore, no TP bombs, a small beach, and pretty good firepit.
Geo and a nice smallie. This one probably went 3.5 or so. We only took pics of fish we thought were in the 3lb range, so I suspect this was 3 or 3.5lbs.
Eddie with a pretty nice smallie.
Another photo from our first campsite. We had two camps on this trip, but in hindsight, I really wish we had stayed 2 more days here. It was THAT good.
Eddie with another decent smallie. Most fish were caught on the "Magic" bait, or tubes. I managed to catch quite a few fish on swimbaits.
Edide and another smallie.
After 6 or 7 hrs in the canoe, we HAD to get out and take a break. Eddie and I power fished this trip. While I don't do that too often any longer, it was fun and the breaks were very helpful.
Even Cooper the wonder dog needed breaks. Cooper is a fantastic dog up there. I was aprehensive the first time we took him, but now, I really don't care. He only acted up and barked a few times, which we promptly shut down if anyone was around.
Chms prepping his day pack for a long fishing day. There were a few very long portages that they took looking for new water. It was not necessary. Eddie and I didn't portage into any other body of water, outside of the necessary portages to get to this lake. It was GREAT.
Another really nice smallie. Notice the water behind me in this picture. It is crystal clear. And in this particular pic, those rocks are covered by nearly 6 ft of water. TALK about Spooky fish.
Monster Steaks. Yea, they have to go. This was a long, hard trip, but it was not very many portages......just a LOT of paddling. Since we knew the portages were much less than the falls chain, and the horse river, we chose to take the monster steaks. I'm GLAD we did. They were good.
My Tent. This is my Big Agnes Parkview tent. I LOVE it. It is the biggest 3 man tent I've ever used, and it is bombproof. We didn't have much weather on this trip, but I'm glad I had a solid tent anyways.
Eddie with a pretty decent northern.
We caught a ton of walleye on this trip. In fact, every night we wanted to eat fish, we had walleye. On some nights, we also had lake trout. This is the first trip that I have actually passed on harvesting Lakers. Since they were so shallow, I had no problem releasing them.
Eddie and another really good smallie. On this point of land, Eddie and I fished from the bank into a great eddy, catching 15 walleye and 45 smallies one day, and 30-40 smallies and nearly a MONSTER, 30-40lb northern. It was the largest northern I have ever seen.
Eddie with one of the 12 or 13 walleye we managed to catch off of this point. We harvested our limit and then continued fishing until we were tired of catching walleye.
Geo with a Swimbait laketrout. This laker was caught in about 20ft of water on a swimbait. We harvested this one. For dinner, we had fried walleye, grilled smallies with rosemary and dried tomatoe rub, and baked lake trout. Man what a feast.
Geo with a decent smallie.
Geo and a solid stringer of walleyes. Eddies walleye are also on this stringer.
My Canoe. I purchased this Boundary Waters by Wenonah a few years ago. It was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I love it. It is very stable, fishes great, and paddles pretty good. AND it can carry a ton of gear.
Geo and Dave B. firing up the stoves to prepare some fried fish. I've been using Primus Optimus multi-fuel stoves for about 10 years now. They are the best white gas stoves I've ever used. They will also burn isobutane, which is really good when trying to simmer or bake using my oven.
Baking some bread using my Omnia oven. I'm BEAT, and the picture shows. Using the Omnia over a relfector oven is a no brainer. It is simple, fast, and doesn't require a fire. I LOVE it.
A cool waterfall. I'm not too sure where this is . I think Cirrus lake dumping into Quetico Lake.
Cooper loves playing in the water. There were a few times when we were really concerned about the temp of the water. Especially when he would take off after loons. He would get 50 yards from shore and you could tell he was tired. He did OK though. He had dog food, but preferred the leftovers.
What a GREAT firepit. This picture is from our second campsite on this trip. It was a pretty good site, but he black flies were horrible. I swallowed quite a few while talking and breathing. I received all my bug bites on this campsite. FUN.
Dave B. relaxing in camp.
Kirk S. relaxing in camp.
Geo and some fresh baked Omnia Oven cornbread. I made bread on this trip 3 or 4 times. We also had cheesecake and oreo cheesecake. Good food helps make a trip.
Pictographs on Quetico Lake.
Eddie in front of a crazy BIG rootball on Quetico Lake.
More Pictographs.
This is a picture of a pretty cool cliff on Quetico Lake.
The group. I loved this trip, and wiill be making it again. Hopefully with the same crew. Dave B. and Kirk S. were right. This area is pretty cool. We had a great time and I used another Entry;. I'd love to use every Quetico entry before I'm done.
