Waiting for a Pick up on American Point. The guy in the white shirt is non other than...............Waterboy.
It is common practice for our group to name lakes, points, straits, portages and other landmarks after members of our group that do something funny, interesting, stupid, or anything else that can be deemed noteworthy. This particular picture is of an area called "George Straits"......
GeoFisher on Monument Portage......this is trip 2, after carrying the canoe.
These are the 2 six pound walleye caught from "George Straits". Waterboy as usual, went fishless for the day.
This is another decent 4lb walleye caught near "George Straits"....Notice how the front of the canoe seems to ride really low in the water......my fishing partner for this day weighed about 100 lbs less than me.....I could not convince him that I should be in the stern.....I have a LOT more butt.
GeoFisher and Waterboy with the same walleye as above.............
Two loons on 1st Bay of Saganaga Lake..............Pretty, but don't get too close.....looks like they are guarding the nest in this picture...........
It was about 5 in the morning, and foggy.......so foggy, you could not see across the lake......After searching my mind for that that wonderful smell could possibly be.....I figured it out......spearmint. Across the lake, these two Moose were munching on spearmint. WHAT a great smell.
Yes that really is a 50lb cooler full of block ice and other stuff. This is a picture of us heading into the BWCA.
This is the lakefront view of Superior North Outfitters.............I cannot say enough about Earl, and his outfit here. This being my first trip, I have not had an opportunity to use any other outfitter. I will probably use Superior North whenever possible.
Chris and Dave exiting Swamp Portage...........
This is Ben and Cory on Monument Portage. I owe all of my 1998 photos to Ben......On the day going into the BWCA this year, I left my camera on for floor of the canoe.......being a rookie, I didn't realize just how much rain could accumulate in the bottom of a Canoe.......Destroyed on DAY 1.
Another Ben photo on Monument Portage.
I think this a the trail to the cliffs above the Zephyr Campsite......It may be a picture of the Monument Portage on the Cypress side of the portage.
This is GeoFisher and Waterboy on Monument Portage........Don't laugh too much......this is what we thought would be the easiest way to portage.......We gave this up for the traditional single man portage when a 75 year old guy with a 50lb pack and an old Grumman canoe passed us up.......
